The Apple iPod touch 2nd generation is out to replace the 1st generation iPod which had been troubled with quite some technical problems.
That is also the main changes that you can find in the 2nd generation iPods. Some of the hardware had been changed for the better.
If the users of the older generation had problems with using the iTouch blindly, the newer generation users would now have a slim volume switch at the left edge of the iTouch to make it easier to adjust the volume.
The 2nd generation iTouch also have a more rounded design like the iPhone 3G, giving it a slimmer look.
These are the minor improvements that had been done on the 2nd generation iTouch. Most of the hardware remained unchanged.
Both of them share the same display screen size, same arrangements of headphone jack, dock and home button.
In comparison with other MP3 players, the iTouch has a music player, video playback (covering iTunes and YouTube), support podcasts, Safari Web browser, photo viewer, email reader (which is compatible to Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, AOL and etc), Wi-Fi music store and some other smaller utilities like weather, maps, calendar, notes, calculator, contacts and clock).
The iTunes App Store allows user to download thousands of other applications, games, programs to read pdf files and etc.
You can also use the iTouch with the Apple speaker systems. The 2nd generation of iTouch also introduces another feature which allows you to create an instant 25 songs playlist based on the characteristics of a single song chosen by you.
It is quite a fun feature to try out with if you have a huge collection of songs in your iTunes in your computer or in you iTouch.
However, lots of users are still disappointed with the fact that Safari could not stream flash video and audio content.
Many providers had been working around this problem and hopefully we will be seeing a better iTouch in the near future.
